I joined TotES Studio P. in May to help with some organizational matters. It’s been pretty exciting to be a part of the team that is passionately devoted to the production of their very first otome game - “Her Choice”.

In this blog post I would like to line up some updates regarding our team and express my views on why I find “Her Choice” to be so different from typical otome games.

**Disclaimer**

I am not a hard-core otome games player but when I was given a chance to try the demo, I could not stop thinking how elegantly the story combines both romance *that you typically find in otome games* and different unpredictable elements that drive the plot forward. The genre of the game nicely combines drama, a bit of thriller, some horror elements, detective fiction and even humor!

What makes this game so different from other otome games:

Unique music

We are proud to announce that we have been joined by a professional composer straight from Japan! Eto-san is currently working on developing the theme songs and soundtrack that add a unique Japanese touch to the overall game environment.

Actually, quoting him: “While playing the demo, I was able to “travel” to the western world and this inspired me to create music that involves subtle hints of Japanese and Western/Victorian Style overtones.”

Well, I will not bother you with much explanation, you will be able to experience it yourself in the demo!

The story

The core team includes a dedicated in-house developer and a designer. Both of them have been working on the “Tales of the Eagle Sword” series since 2002. The world Her Choice takes place in has been expanded for nearly two decades and it has a special place in the heart of the developers. What I found interesting is that apart from the different sub-stories (based on making love choices), there is an overarching plot that can be discovered only by playing through all the routes. The lore is immense and everybody will find something special in it.

The protagonist has weight (and it is exciting!)

This is the exact feature that made me completely fall in love with the game. It was important for me to see the strength of the main female character.

The main protagonist happens to win a lucky ticket and participate in a production set of her favourite show. This gives her a chance to write a script for one of the episodes while enjoying a celebrity lifestyle, and (!) being surrounded by her favourite idols. Throughout the story she gets to know the idols closely (of course it depends on your choices) and enjoys all sorts of drama! This seems like a typical otome romance story. However, what struck me most is that she always has a choice to leave the place and continue with her life. But the reasons that compel her (and you, the player) to stay have little to do with just being a fan blindly following her idols. She has her own motivations and principles, that you can discover little by little as you play the game.

There is a depth to the main character that you can notice while reading the dialogues. The protagonist has a huge influence on the whole game environment and is not just driven by love choices. She influences her choices, she chooses. The game, after all, is beautifully called “Her Choice” and you probably already guessed why.

I would like you all to try the demo and decide for yourself what you think about the story, characters, music and the overall gameplay. We cannot wait for you all to try it out and give us an honest opinion!
